Deus Ex Machina is the twenty-ninth issue of the series.
Samus wonders how she and Oveur escaped the island they were on in the previous issue. Ovuer suggests a deus ex machina, then gives the very dictionary-like definition of "a random plot device that allows the writer to insert characters into a location with no excuse or reason given". Suddenly Dark Samus arrives, and shoots Samus, who ducks down at the last second to pick up an Idaho state quarter, which she then remembers she already has, in the process getting Oveur killed instead. The Emperor Ing shows up and attacks, but Samus easily defeats it, noticing that "bosses are easy to defeat in this comic".
- The Latin title means "god from the machine," a Roman phrase referring to the usage of mechanical-acted gods in plays used as random plot devices to move along the plot.
